Twitter Updates

Written by Amanda L. Sage    Posted on Sunday, June 6, 2010

The more people who follow you on Twitter, the more networking opportunities and influence you have. So you have to try and build a follow and here are a few tips on how to get people to follow you.

Follow them: There’s this instantaneous reaction to follow people who follow you. But there is a backlash against people who follow pretty much anyone just to get followers.

Post some tweets before following someone: If you don’t have any tweets on your page, you won’t seem real or personable. Or if you’re uninteresting no one will follow you.

Complete your bio: People hardly ever follow strangers, so complete the bio right underneath your web URL, name, and picture. (Definitely include a URL if you have one.)

Add your Twitter feed to your blog or to your other social media profiles: If you have a good following on your blog or a lot of connections on Facebook or LinkedIn, you can use this audience to increase your followers on Twitter.

Reply to people, especially if they aren’t following you yet: That’s a perfect way to engage someone and get them to follow you, even if they don’t follow you immediately.

Use Twitter search: If you use this tool to find matters of importance or relevance to you or your company, you are bound to find followers that have a lot in common with your values.
